The Legend of Rainmaking and Your brand

By Rikki Dee

Rain- seems like that's what we got for the majority summer! At what point did New York and Seattle trade places and I had no idea?

Being that rain was the of discussion for the lion's share of us in this part of the States at the beginning of the summer, it does call to mind a lesson on Branding I learned from one Dr. Ben Mack which he did last year.

I will attempt to reveal some of the most important parts given at this very informative event over the next ensuing articles so stay tuned or check out my blog for updates. The lecture contained topics such as: 1) Making lightning Strike, 2) Keeping the Lightning Striking and 3) Bottling your lightning.

Those not acquainted who Ben Mack is should know that he ranks is one of the big Kahunason Branding today in the country bar none! Mr. Mack (or should I say Dr. Mack) has held positions at some of the best advertizing agencies during his memorable career. How does Vice President for Brand Strategy at one of the major corporations grab you?

Essentially what that meant was he was a chief strategist in charge of a " Billion dollar budget (yes, I said " BILLION or 500 Million dollar budget!). Do you think he knows what he is talking about? I certainly do, and not only has he performed magic for the companies he worked for, he is also a Professional Magician who at age 19 was the youngest recepient of the Award of Merit presented by the Academy of Magical Arts.

For those unfamiliar with what a rainmaker is, a rainmaker is an individual indian shaman not withstanding who instead of insuring a good harvest for his people brings increased revenue to his business by the use of his or her political connections, ability to attract customer therfore making the people he works for money.

As a marketer your essential obligation is to "up sell" people on their experience of reality. In Benjamin Mack's book "Think Two Products Ahead" he talks about how the most profitable branding really only occurs only when people think two products ahead rather than just thinking here and now and to build a thriving relationship with your clients or customers through your Brand. The section where Ben teaches how to construct your Legend Platform is worth much more than the price of the book itself!

Your "Brand" (the one called YOU!) is built around the notion of a "legend" or that is told repetedly and somewhere down the road grow stronger as days and weeks or even years go by. These tales can and should be allowed to be at odds to each other. So, if you had to single out what type of story you would use to make your business shine like a diamond (you are reading articles like these to do so correct?) why not have them be legends. How else will you become "Legendary" in your chosen field without them?
