Google Adsense: An Introduction

By Dave Templeton

Online advertising can make or break the income of a website. Google Adsense is an advertising program designed to help website owners in generating revenue from their sites. While many individuals sell products online, Adsense is the primary income source for thousands of websites. In fact, for many people with websites, Adsense is the only way their sites really make any money.

You don't have to write the ads you really just dedicate an ad space to Adsense and Google will fill the space with ads (text and/or image ads) based on the content of the site as screened by Google. Targeted advertising, that is, a link or links that relate to a visitor's tastes, is much more likely to bring in revenue. Website visitors can create income for a website owner. Google handles the matchmaking of advertiser to site, and streamlines the process as a whole.

Placement of ads is also a factor in their success. Links related to a headline generate the most traffic when they are directly below the headline they relate to. This headline slot is best reserved for the top-paying advertiser. Site designers also are responsible for where ads are placed, and how they match up with the rest of the website. This helps make it easier for the advertisements to blend in with the website and therefore not look like a classifieds page.

We often hear that 'content is king'. You really should have plenty of quality original content good original content is the best way to get traffic moving to your website, and this traffic will allow you to start making income from the internet. A website designer can bring in more revenue if they make their website or online publication more visible to people like those searching the internet. When a certain website has a lot of traffic back and forth, the advertising rates on that page can be much higher than the rates of websites that do not have much traffic.

If creating a website, advertisements should be placed on each page (except possibly contact, policy, and similar non content pages) so having many pages can be advantageous.

You will find that Adsense can provide a significant income with very little effort!
