By Garry Cross

To furnish your room a more wholesome source of lighting you can opt to have your windows or your skylight larger. Although crystals and neutral paint works could lighten a room in their own beautiful way, there is nothing more lovely than the bright sunlight with a tad of cool air. Skylights for that matter can be bothersome in the wintry weather, so some folks opt to have it small as much as possible. So we are left with your windows! And it is up to you whether you would prefer double hung windows or bow window.

Double hung windows have a long colorful past. They have been here for as long as the 18th century. So if you are residing in a colonial 18th century house your very own windows may have been mute witnesses of wars and famines. And who might know, probably some soldier or diplomat of the Civil War could have gazed outside of your window glass. On the other hand, given that a good number of these windows have been truly very old you may beforehand see some of the wooden encasement and wooden frames being eaten away by termites. If there were no exterior deterioration but you spot some stains or blemish on the wood veneer then perhaps the decomposition is from the inside. This could prove to be more dangerous as any gush of wind or outside pressure and your windowpane may finally collapse.

For these problems you can merely have two options. Whether to buy a new one or replace it with another. Many houses possibly have by now opted for a new model of window. Since there are countless choices in the market, the options are infinite. But double hung's are interesting in itself since they are relatively compact from this time they can suit any walls or corners of any wideness. You can have two to three double hung's in a single spot of your living room or a single double hung in your puny bathroom.

These windows can also be opened from the top or from the bottom so it can afford to give two levels of wind. If you want to air your room from the ceiling to produce more fresh air for your ceiling fan then you can open the top panel. In addition, these are also among one of the easiest to wipe. If you have an accent window probably you can imagine that you have to go out from your house and sponge it from the outside. This could be wearisome if the windowpane is on the top floor.

If you worry for example of the maintenance of the wooden frame of your double hung windows, you can just ask from your retailer what style of substitute for wood would be fitting. Vinyl or fibrex are both durable materials that could provide the same aesthetic superiority of a wood. To care for the framework you also need to regularly repaint or re-varnish it with coatings that have anti-repellant solution. And of course keeping it clean would repulse the termites.
