Citronella Bark Dog Collars -- Training Facts

By Sylvia Manchester

Dogs bark. It doesn't take a genius to know that this is how they communicate - with their fellow dogs, other animals, and humans. When dogs bark, they may be calling out to a dog of the opposite sex, eager for attention and a chance at mating. They may be chasing off a cat, a rat or some other pest in the area. Or they may be warning their owner that there is a stranger outside.

When dogs bark when they're supposed to bark, the use of citronella collar is uncalled for. However, there are times when a dog's barking turns excessive, causing great annoyance to its owner, the neighbors, and everyone who's within hearing range. This usually happens when a dog is left untrained, allowed to bark whenever it pleases just as it does other things, like peeing inside the house and eating out of the garbage can.

If you happen to own a dog with these sorts of problems, you might have to consider buying a citronella collar. These collars are very effective in calming and silencing a barking dog especially during inappropriate times and places.

Here are some facts you should know:

What exactly is a citronella dog collar?

The citronella dog collar is something you put around the dog's neck like other normal collars. The only difference is that whenever the dog starts barking, it releases a tiny spray of citronella spray to startle and calm the dog.

About citronella

Citronella plant which is a member of the Cymbopogon species is rich in a particular oil of olfactory value which can be extracted from its leaves and stems. This oil is generally used in the manufacture of perfumes, soaps, and other cosmetics.

Use of Citronella in dogs

The oil extracted from citronella is used in the manufacture of insect repellents and other non-toxic bio-pesticides. This very oil is used in citronella collars too because of the properties it exhibits in calming over active dogs who bark for no reason.

You don't have to suffer endlessly with your dog's continuous barking, day in and day out. Try to get a citronella collar and see the difference.
