Different Options For Product Packaging

By Lenna Stockwell

Every kind of product there is in the market will need packaging and plastic is a kind of packaging that is often used and has a variety of advantages over other options such as metal or cardboard. It is lightweight and often resistant to moisture, to name a few advantages. If you continue on reading, you will have a good understanding about packaging and also the many options you will have.

The process to produce and create plastic packaging is known as thermoforming or thermoform molding, and sometimes even called vacuum thermoforming. In this process, sheets of thin plastic are heated up to a certain temperature, making it easier in shaping. These are then forced into molds, to form the plastic packaging that is needed by people. There are custom thermoforming companies, including Indepak, which can create custom packaging for clients on practically any size or type of packaging.

Many different types of thermoplastic are used to make the packages. Often products are made using a plastic known as polyethylene terephthalate or PET or PETE. Another common source of plastic for packaging is polystyrene. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is yet another type of plastic commonly used to make different types of packaging. All of these plastics are recyclable, especially PET and HDPE, which are accepted by most recycling centers throughout the United States.

Practically all thermoforming companies can produce all kinds of packaging products, from the clamshell packaging product to the blister packs and even the thermoform trays. The clamshell and blister types of packaging products are the most common though. The clamshell packaging type is one used to hold fruit or other food items, and these are also used as packaging for takeout food. These also can be created from thicker and stronger plastic materials, and when sealed, is excellent packaging to use to protect the products inside from damage or from tampering, or even theft.

Blister packages usually are a mix of plastic with a backing of cardboard or perhaps a combination of foil and plastic. Medicines often are wrapped individually using a blister pack. Other items usually have a piece of cardboard on the back and the plastic is attached on the front. This allows consumers to see the product and the plastic also is quite protective. Technically a clamshell package is a blister pack that simply folds onto itself.

Plastic trays are also packaging trays for several items, and these are also into the thermoforming industry. If you happen to open a bag of cookies, you will see these placed in trays, and this is for protection, and this is just an example. Various types of trays are also used for holding syringes and bottles of medicines for injections, and these are used by doctors and others in the medical profession. There should be sections and these should fit the size of items to be secured, and the trays should be created this way. Coming up with a solution to perfectly answer the packaging problem should be met, and this should be the thermoforming company that produces packaging according to whatever need.
