Studying In The States Requires A US Student Visa

By Estelle Larsen

Nothing is more exciting than wanting to go to another country to further ones education. Many countries worldwide are more than willing to help students and even older people with this. Applying for a US Student Visa is a process that more and more people are doing and are getting accepted.

When wanting to apply there are certain steps that will need to be completed. This could vary from country to country depending on the U. S. Embassy or Consultant in one's own place of residence. Before applying always read the instructions carefully and ensure that one understands everything written down. If any questions need to be asked don't be afraid to make enquiries.

The first stage that needs to be done is to fill in the form and then be accepted by the SEVP or the Student and Exchange Visitor Program. One will need to know as to what one wants to study, academic or vocational. This program is a part of the National Security Investigations Division.

The exchange program will allow students to work during the summer vacation which normally is about four months. There is also an opportunity to work in summer youth camps as a camp counselor. If one is a qualified teacher this will enable one to teach in either a primary or secondary school for up to three years or even become an Au Pair. The requirements to do this one will need to be between eighteen and twenty six and must be able to work about 45 hours a week in the home of those that need care for their children.

A vocational and technical program can be either a short term or a two year course at a community or junior college. The most common programs are culinary arts, automotive mechanics, game design and data processing to name just a few. Before starting on any of these courses find out if the certificate or diploma will be recognized in one's own country.

The amount that will be needed to study further in America will depend on what institution is chosen as well as what program and how long it will last for. The materials that are needed to complete the course will also be added into the amount. One of the things that many tend to forget when working out the finances is to include the traveling as well as all the living expenses. Having health insurance is very important as well as this will cover any medical needs while in the country.

Always be polite and keep a positive attitude even if one is denied the visa. Ask why it was turned down and what needs to be done in order to turn the refusal around the next time. Try to get this all down in writing so that it will be easier to remember later. If one is confident in themselves this give the impression of knowing exactly what one wants and how to go about getting it. But do not come off as over bearing.

Applying for the Visa can be very frightening as well as exciting. This is the beginning of a new chapter in one's life. One can learn of the different cultures and meet new and exciting people of all age groups making lifelong friendships at the same time.
