Is There Freedom In MLM?

By Brad Near

It is said that when you live your life your own way you are among the richest people in the world. Imagine owning your own home based business, earning at whatever level you choose, setting your own hours, vacationing when you choose, being free of debt and enjoying empowering others to fulfill their dreams in life. What a dream that would be. Do you agree?

A lot of people have that dream. Few people actually connect with a vehicle that can deliver that dream.

Many pursue their dream by owning their own company. That's a great start, but will it bring you closer to your dream? All companies have pressures. Deadlines, law suits, disgruntled employees, changing tax laws that can tear your business apart, production deadlines, debt pressures and sometimes dealing with investors. This is not freedom.

Maybe owning your own company isn't your 'cup of tea'. Maybe you have chosen a high paying profession that is highly respected such being an attorney, an airline pilot, an accountant and even a doctor. You feel good about your profession but soon learn that you are only trading units of time for units of money. When you stop working your income disappears. It's hard to call that freedom in my book.

Franchises are chosen by many in their later years with the belief that a widely recognized franchise is the ticket to freedom. Well, it's not. Not only do they require thousands of dollars of investment but they require endless hours as a business owner. The claim for a franchise owner is they have stepped from a career to job. That's not freedom.

When life delivered a series of blows that put me flat down on the floor I chose to take that as an opportunity to jot down exactly what I wanted from my next phase of life, my new career. The only opportunity I found that would give me total freedom was network marketing, or multi-level marketing.

You're probably wondering just what this thing called network marketing is all about. Well, here's a brief overview.

First it is probably the only vehicle where one can leverage their productivity through the involvement of others without taking on the financial and moral responsibilities of being an employer.

You see, leverage is the only true wealth generator. Let me explain. Most of us trade units of time for units of money working at a job. Now, I'm not knocking a job but if we want to build wealth we run into a barrier; there are only so many hours in a day. Interestingly, studies show that people with jobs manage to adjust their lifestyle where whatever money they make is spent on lifestyle. Little is left for investment.

Leverage in the investment world is a prime example. Say you wish to invest in a building that costs $1 million. Say the investment is increasing in value at 5% per year, or $50,000 per year. That's a 5% return on your investment of $1 million. Now, let's say you borrow $750,000 from a mortgage company, so your actual cash investment is only $250,000. Say your building's value continues to increase 5% per year or $50,000. Well, $50,000 yield on $250,000 is a 25% investment yield. Your investment yield skyrocketed from 5% to 25%. That's the power of leverage.

We can attain this same type of leverage with a home based business that is centered on a network marketing structure. It goes like this; you find five people to join you in your network marketing company and spend time teaching them what you learned that encouraged them to join you. Let's say you are each selling $100 worth of products a month, earning a $50 profit on your sales. What's interesting is you sell your $100 worth, but your entire organization is actually selling $600 worth of products. That is leverage.

You check your monthly pay reports and after a few months find that you have 500 people each selling $100 worth of products each month for $50,000 sales volume from your organization. Your check increases even though you only sold $100 worth of products yourself. Fascinating.

As the founder of your own organization that started with your first five people you are able to earn a percentage on all volume produced in your organization. In our example you are passing $50,000 in sale volume after a few months. Typically that produces a $10,000 to $20,000 check from the company. Not bad for a home based business. Do you agree?

You can do this from any place on the planet these days. The internet has given us all access to true geographic freedom. You can work when you choose, set your own hours, avoid business debt, help others to realize their dreams, earn whatever level of earnings you choose and a have a lifestyle that few on this planet are able to enjoy.
