5 Reasons to Exercise In the Morning

By Natalie Cappetta

There are many reasons to start exercising, but in order to maintain that motivation, start your routine in the morning. The key to a healthier lifestyle lies in morning activity. Even if you can only squeeze in 15 minutes, any movement is instantaneously rewarding and beneficial. There are five motivating reasons to get you moving:

1. Consistency. Research shows that 90% of people who exercise on a consistent basis do it in the morning.

2. Increased metabolism. Starting your workout in the morning increases your metabolism rate, allowing you to burn calories throughout the day! Even if you are sitting on the couch your metabolism doesn't stop moving.

3. Energy. Rather than rely on a body pumped with caffeine, rely on your body's natural source of energy. The more often you exercise, the more vibrant you'll be throughout the day and possibly into the night.

4. Mental and physical health. Your physical health is just as important as your mental health, and a workout routine will help to set them at equilibrium. Keeping active allows for an escape and a period where you can recharge. Exercise can be a time that you learn to cherish.

5. Community. Having a social routine can better serve you in regards to maintenance. By participating with other like-minded individuals, you can share your successes, your lack of motivation, and a laugh, which is recommended.

There are only benefits from a morning run, so set the alarm a bit earlier than usual and get moving! Every Tuesday morning at 7:30AM The Gym Team is now running a free weekly outdoor fitness class in Portman Square. It lasts for 45 minutes and is suitable for all fitness levels-and it's fun!

Meet at the Gym Reception and you won't regret it!
