Online Sweepstakes

By Peter Jones

Spending all your time aimlessly surfing the web? Your not alone, a majority of people surfing the web are doing so with no real purpose but to waste time. We've all been guilty of it, even those facebook games that are addictively played, while we wait to go out, to bed or just the TV show that we want to watch to come on.

Imagine spending this time putting yourself in with the opportunity to win amazing prizes liek cash, cars and holidays. Would this be a better way to waste time on the internet?

There a millions of websites out there all vying for a piece of your time, and your email address. This then gives you a fantastic opportunity to cash in on and win prizes.

These websites run Online Competitions or Online Sweepstakes if your in the US, and they are continuing to rise in popularity. The reason why is that they provide you and the website a win win outcome.

From simply signing up to a websites email subscriber list through to answering a few questions or even the harder Online Competitions where you need to be better than everyone else that enters in some way, you can put yourself in line to win prizes.

So next time your aimlessly surfing the web, do a Google search on Online Competitions and check out the websites. Once you have found an Online Competition that you want to enter, first check out the terms and conditions. If you can't find the terms and conditions, probably best not to enter, as you need to know Competition eligibility (Most Online Competitions limit who can enter), you also need to know the Competition Start and end dates (It's pointless entering a Competition if it has already ended), and most importantly what they do with your information that you enter (The last thing you want is to agree to them sharing or selling your information to third parties and then getting harassed over the phone constantly).

Another thing that you have to be careful with is how much information you enter. While nearly all Online Competitions are legitimate, some are hosted by dubious websites who just want enough information to be able to steal your identity. If a website asks for a date of birth, I always enter one that is a day or a month out. Having to prove your date of birth to receive a prize is extremely unlikely and you can always claim that you hit the wrong number.

Why is giving these great prizes a win win for the website and visitor? Well, the visitor gets the opportunity to win something and the website gets a new email subscriber. It's also important to note here that as you have subscribed to their email database, you will most likely receive emails from them. So the more Online Competitions you enter the more emails you will receive. So if you don't want to have your personal email address inundated with these emails, set up another email address from a free provider such as hotmail. Don't forget to check this email address regularly though, in case you get the winner notification. Once the prize has been won, you can unsubscribe or junk their emails. I keep them though, as I get notified of the next time they are running a new Online Competition.
