Tips For Preparation Of A Personal Funeral Service

By Ricky Silva

Death is one of the harsh realities of our existence that we are least prepared for. Paying respects to the dead is an age old custom that has gradually changed to suit the times. A traditional funeral service was carried out in church, with specific hymns, poems and a eulogy for the deceased. But, the practice has witnessed significant change over time as an increasing number of people now want to go for a more personal service for their loved ones.

Organizing a funeral could be an extremely painful and hard task, especially immediately after the death of a relative or a friend. The fundamental misconceptions about funeral services include that this is a legal requirement, which it most certainly isn't. Secondly, a majority of people have an erroneous belief that a service can be held only in a church. It is to be noted that even though traditionally such services were held in a church, with the trend of personalizing, a lot of funeral services are being held within the premises of the deceased. Thirdly, such services do not mandate the involvement of any clergy or priest or even a casket as a compulsory requirement.

With the increase in demand for personal funeral services, it is important to keep the dead person in mind while planning for it. The music to be played at the service should be soft as well as from the personal choices of the deceased. You can either hire a live music band or decide to play music records.

Personal things can be displayed in the form of a collage, thereby showing everyone the true character of the departed. Address is very important in all funeral services inclusive of the personal ones. It could be a recital, a song or a personal speech that reflects upon the dead person.

Lastly, it is preferable to give the guests gathered at the service some type of a memento that will help them remember the departed forever.
