So You Think You Know Everything About Corporate Gifts?

By Gareth Brody

Giving personal gifts is a shade different from giving gifts with corporate gift giving. We have a tendency to think that it is the thought that counts when we purchase gifts meant for people with whom we are in close contact with. Usually, we scrimp on the budget while at the same time take the effort to see to it that what we are getting is something that the recipient would be pleased to have. In corporate gift giving, however, cheap keepsakes will always be spotted, and may insult the ego of the recipient. Corporate gift giving is an art that has to be perfected for it to do contribute success to our business.

Corporate gifts are mostly valuable products, and they are often given away without any symbol of the company on the item, as they are not for advertising. However, sometimes organizations also give employees and potential clients promotional items such as pen drives, mouse-pads, key-chains and office utility items that are marked with the business logo.

The gifts to be given by the company should be selected as per the needs and desires of the person for whom it is being purchased for. Although exclusive and costly gifts are given to key customers of the company, the employees are usually given the same type of gift, which is generally not costly, but serves a useful purpose.

The impact of the corporate gift on the professional relations with a customer or a team member depends on how expensive the person perceives the gift to be. However, gift-giving is at times regulated by the law, so a confirmation with your legal department is worthwhile.

Before buying corporate gifts you should plan your expense, decide upon the number of gifts to be given, and try to find good deals for a bulk purchase from the wholesalers. The planning part is more significant with respect to employee gifts, even more so if your business is a mid-sized or large corporation. It is important to ensure that there are enough gifts to express your thankfulness to every worthy employee.

However, always ensure that gift giving in the corporate setting is allowed by law and, of course, by your finances.
