Story of the Pirelli calendar

By Josh Callern

In the news lately, there have been calendars. That's due to the fact that the Mayan calendar foresaw the end of an era and 2012. Although they didn't predict the end of the world, they did predict a wholesale change in the beginning of a new 5000 year period. Pirelli calendar is one of the most famous calendars that is not a topic of conversation.

The famous Pirelli found his tire and cable company in 1872. Only 45 people did he employed at that time. Thousands of people is what the company employs now and earns billions of dollars. As an advertisement ploy, the company started the calendar in 1962. They aimed this calendar at key markets and originally featured tires. The photographer shot models on the beaches of Cote d'Azur later in the calendars history. To appear in the calendar was the famous model Sophia Loren. In 2007, at the age of 72, her decision to appear in the calendar was quite controversial. That didn't stop Pirelli as the producers of the calendar have always been ahead of their time.

With the coming of the recession due to the oil crisis in 1974, they discontinued the calendar. It wasn't until 10 years later that they started the calendar up again. The calendar still featured tires in some form or another, until the calendar became more sophisticated. It was not necessary to show the product finally.

You must keep in mind that the production run of this calendar was small and only key people that the Pirelli people wanted had this calendar. Being rare, it was in demand.

This calendar became very famous around the world eventually. Being part of the famous racing team is obviously part of the reason. For its production, Pirelli started using the best photographers and models. Making a limited number of them and valuable during this time was the decision. Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss and Helena were among the models and the calendars became collectibles.

The narrative differed depending on the photographer. For example, Peter Beard, a famous photographer shot in the wild landscape of Botswana. For the layout, he wanted a free spirit and a natural tone. The wild and the natural landscape were familiar to Bernard as he had lived in Africa.

The tire company printed of the calendar and lead free paper. what Pirelli wanted is for it to be eco-friendly. Shooting the calendar models, he made sure of the environmental friendliness. In Costa Rico, he worked to protect a forested area, to offset the emissions used for producing the calendar.

Featuring Miranda Kerr, the very latest calendars is shot in Brazil. Posing themselves and eating bananas, is what the narrative features. A different theme of womanhood is represented by Pirelli calendar each year. Having a place of honor is achieved by combining creativity, beauty and glamor. Its restriction on ownership and it limited run has added to the excitement.
