The Responsibilities Of A Teacher

By Lorselle Vang

Knowing the subject you teach is just a tiny part of the responsibilities of being a teacher. Whatever subject or level you teach in, you are burdened with huge duties. You will need to guide your pupils in every possible way. Whether you are inside the classroom or anyplace outside, you are expected to be in your best person as whatever you say or do very often leaves an indelible mark to the students.

Before you embark into the profession, you must be fully devoted to the part. A teaching position isn't just an impulse that you get. It's a lifetime duty with great rewards if you sincerely care about your position. Even if you enjoy teaching, you won't last in the position if you don't have traits that all teachers must have.

First and foremost, you need to have patience. If you don't have it, you won't last in the job. A teacher oversees kids and not-so-little children so being patient is a virtuous and necessary trait that you should possess. Because if you are not patient, you will only be miserable in your teaching position and you will extend that unhappiness to your students.

As you are handling people who either want to learn or need to learn, you will have to be positive for them. They need to get as much enthusiasm as you can give. Without a positive mindset, you are certain to take them down and make things tough for them.

Naturally, a teacher should know when things must be handled seriously. However, they should also know when to inject humor. Not all teachers have a sense of humor, but that's exactly what marks great teachers apart from good ones. A well-timed sense of humor not only makes learning more fascinating, but also eases the strain and tension in the class.

Creativity is an essential trait to obtain too. Teachers are bound to lose the interest of the class if they deliver their lecture in the same manner over and over again. It may be their duty to listen to your lecture to pass the subject, but you also need to aid them in any way you can.

Being a teacher requires you to get your hands dirty and wrestle your way into your students' life to help them learn and grow. it is far from being a fancy desk job. Only if you are genuinely prepared to devote emotionally and completely then the teaching post is yours to take.
