Mold and Mildew Overview

Mold and mildew can be present in your precious floor tiles if you are not able to prevent it from growing. This article is written to equip the readers with an overview on mold and mildew, simple steps on how to get rid of them and ways to prevent them from growing and taking over your house.

Mold is a microorganism developed on humid and wet areas. Mildew is a presentation of mold in its early stage. They present themselves through discoloration of infested surface or material and with a foul stench that comes off from it. Mold looks like a fuzzy thing that range from color green to black. How to prevent mold from building up on your ceramic tiled flooring?

First, you must dry the area constantly. Constantly wet tiles are prone to mold and mildew build up, this is because mold and mildew thrive in wet places. See to it that bathrooms and kitchen floor is wiped dry and is not left wet for 224 hours. Mold tends to grow within 24-48 hours only. Schedule a routine cleaning, disinfecting and drying of all your home surfaces. If possible, try to open the windows after cleaning your floor to air it out.

Use store bought disinfectants when cleaning your surfaces as they are proven to remove germs, thus preventing mold build up. Wipe spills immediately after it came in contact with your tile surface using a damp cloth soaked in soap and water solution for food satins. For grease and oil stains, use a soap and hot water solution.

Remember to take necessary precautions while cleaning your area. Wear protective rubber gloves especially when dealing with cleaning agents, to avoid harming the skin. Try to avoid using cleaning agents with harsh chemicals in it. When your mold problem is too big for you, then maybe its time to contact your local tile and grout cleaning contractor.
