Demetrios Gabriel: Are Video Games Healthful For Kids?

By Katie Arden

Gaming is one of those subjects which parents will probably want to focus on the most and rightfully so. After all, too much of it can wind up being a bad thing but does this necessarily mean that it should be looked at with scorn? I do not think that this is true, especially when there are actually quite a few benefits that can come from gaming. Demetrios Gabriel can support this point, as video game playing can help children quite a bit as they go through development.

Video games are great for the purpose of developing skills on just about all fronts. If you would like to know, games which entail certain extents of reading can help children as they learn how to process words and include new terms in their vocabularies. What about the way in which action games can help one's motor skills across the board? For purposes seen in the developmental side of things, I do not think that gaming is given nearly as much credit as it probably should be.

What about the impact that video games can have on stress? It might seem hard to believe but the truth of the matter is that kids - especially those who may not be the most outgoing or able to hold their own on a social level - may be able to utilize gaming as a means of escape. To them, these virtual worlds are important. Parents have to make sure that they understand where their children stand on the social front and keep gaming around, as a coping mechanism if not for any other reason.

Demetrios Gabriel will tell you that children, as they grow up, will have certain choices to make throughout their lives. Fortunately, one of the other great aspects about video games is in how they can help kids make better decisions, seeing as how certain games call for that as well. They have to make sure that the path they are heading down is the best one and that their strategy is thought out well. As Gabriel Pediatrics - in addition to other medical authorities - can attest to, the health benefits of video games are quite broad.

To say the least, video games offer a slew of benefits, some of them clearer than others. While it's understandable that adults would want to manage their kids' playtime, it should not be to the point where it is practically nonexistent. Believe it or not, video games offer quite a few benefits for children, so taking away such an escape would not be for the best. Whether as an escape or a developmental tool, gaming is one of those subjects that are difficult to overlook.
