How To Sell Gift Cards For Cash Easily

By Laura Gallagher

Many relatives, rather than giving you a hefty present during special occasions like Birthdays or Christmas, prefer giving you a gift card for several different stores and restaurants instead. But what if they give you a discount card for a store or a restaurant that you will never go to or shop in? You can choose the option of giving it to someone else who will use them or you can sell your gift cards for cash in return.

Those who are unfamiliar with the second option might think twice about doing it. You might think, who would even buy one when practically it is useless? Actually, there are several individuals and companies that really buy these unwanted discount cards. They buy them for a specific percentage of their value in cold hard money or checks.

The face value of the card and its type or specific brand are the basis for the price percentage that these companies will offer you. It can also be based on the establishment where it was issued from. Then they sell these to other people at a discount.

You can either sell them individually or in bulk depending on the company's offering. However, there are companies that do not buy every kind of discount card from every establishment. You should also see whether the company will buy yours specifically. If not, there are several others that might actually do.

There are many of them that already have websites that transact with customers online. This way it is easier for you to know of their services and exchange with them. Payments are mostly done through PayPal, Amazon credit or checks.

However, not every company that claims as being able to buy your gift cards are actually reliable. You must carefully choose which one to transact with or else you will be giving them away without getting anything in exchange. You can browse local Web forums for companies which many other people have made transactions with.

Checking with the Better Business Bureau about the authenticity of their registration is also appropriate. However, it is still recommended that you deal with those that are long established companies instead of dealing with new ones. Committing fraud will definitely tarnish their reputations which most likely they will avoid doing.

They give you a price offer even before you decide to exchange with them. And when you agree they will require the card's number or for you to send it through a mail service. Once received, authentication and verification of its value will be done after which you get paid right after three to seven days.

So instead of giving them away, why not exchange your gift cards for cash instead? This way, instead of re-gifting them or settling for a specific store, you can have hard cash in your pockets and buy whatever item you need without the limit. This is a better option compared to that of the former.
