How Flowers' Fragrance Heightens Their Appeal

By Carol Webb

Self-beautification using flowers was quite prevalent before people started to wear metal jewellery. Through their vivid colours and fragrance, they have enabled people to improve their beauty since ancient times. In almost all major civilizations that the world has witnessed, there is evidence of women and sometimes even men putting flowers in their hair.

Every flower has its own unique fragrance. Colour, shape and fragrance are the three factors that have influenced the different moods that different flowers evoke in humans, and this in turn has determined which flower would suit which occasion. As many perfumes have been created by perfume makers as there are types of flowers, and the uniqueness and subtle differences among flowers' fragrances have offered the industry endless opportunities for many new products. However, synthetically manufactured perfumes that are created from non-organic compounds have now filled the market, and flowers are hardly being used in the manufacturing process.

The scent of flowers is significant not just because they can be sealed in perfume vials. In fact the whole charm of giving flowers to people is based on their scent along with how they look. A room made fragrant by flowers can generate positive vibes and can enliven a person. Bouquets that arouse feelings of joy and delight in recipients' hearts are those that perfectly balance looks and fragrance. Similarly for any auspicious occasion, people use flowers extensively so that the surroundings emanate a naturally delightful scent.

However, in the search for more elegant and long-lasting flowers, horticulturists have over time neglected the significance of fragrance in them. Other innovations in science, such as genetic modification of plants have hastened this pursuit. For instance, carnations and roses today are picture-perfect, and stay fresh for several days, but sadly they have lost the delicate fragrance that was once an important part of their attraction.

Thus, how good a flower smells, or if it oozes any fragrance at all, should be the foremost consideration for buyers when they are purchasing flowers. Expert suggestion of a seasoned florist will definitely enable you to make the correct choice of bouquets or flowers in a large quantity that you are about to buy for a wedding or some other occasion.

The internet is the best place to search for a good florist in Singapore, or you may ask people about who has a good standing in the flower-selling market. Another way of choosing a florist is that you go with a flower outlet representing a well known brand. Firms doing big business will never sacrifice quality or service, and so it is a wise decision to approach them, especially if you are making a bulk purchase.
