What Causes Acne Scars And How To Get Rid Of Them

By Edward Spencer

Acne is an a matter of serious concern, especially for girls, as it appears suddenly and its scars stay long after the acne is gone. Irrespective of your dislike for it, acne can not be escaped by a normal teenager and a lot of care is needed in order to remove these scars and preventing them from sprouting up again.

Acne is an infection caused by the reaction of bacteria and excessive sebum secretion by the glands in the skin. During the healing period of this condition, a fibrous protein called collagen is generated. When the collagen is in excess, there is a protrusion and when its levels are low then it results in tiny craters on the skin. Acne scars develop in both these situations. Adolescents are normally more susceptible to acne infection as their hormones increase suddenly at the time of puberty causing more sebum release.

Some of the general causes of an acne infection are application of cosmetic products that are not suitable for the skin type, using contraceptive pills and medicines, and other genetic factors. A number of other reasons such as anxiety, improper eating habits, and even pollution can cause acne. However, contrary to common perception, there is no scientific connection between oily or junk food and acne.

Despite availability of a number of herbal skin-care products and creams for curing acne available in the stores, it is better to visit a skin doctor if the infection aggravates or appears again and again. It is also advisable not to poke the lesion with pointed objects or to put any kind of pressure on it as it makes the acne get worse.

An increasing number of people are also opting for cosmetic treatments to remove acne scars and to regain a spotless skin. Surgery and laser treatment are two of the most successful ways of permanently getting rid of acne scars, but several other innovative treatments are also available these days. You must talk to a good skin doctor or cosmetic surgeon who can identify the skin type you possess and recommend an appropriate therapy.
