Types Of Mold Testing Illinois

By Michael Wagner

Molds tend to grow at homes and affect the general health of those living in it as well as affect the appearance of the house. However one needs to be sure that molds are actually affecting the house. These can be easily done through using Mold Testing Illinois kits. The article below explains some of the types and how they are used.

The kits can either test the type of molds, if they are molds while others check both. As with the lift tape kits, they use a tacky and sticky surface to test the type of the molds. The tacky surface covers the sticky one which is placed onto the molds and then recovered by the tacky surface. The user then takes the tape to a laboratory where the exact type of molds is identified.

The next kit known as the instant kit on the other hand only tests the presence of the molds. It is also simple to use. It comes with a swab in a test tube. The swab is rubbed against the area suspected to have molds, then placed back in the test tube. It is allowed to remain in the tube for ten minutes, then the home owners checks the change in color on the tube and compares it with those on the color chart that is part of the kit.

The viable kit is the next type. It is the most common type used as it shows the presence of the molds as well as its strain. The kit consists of a swab and petri dish that contains some gel inside it. The swab is wiped on the suspected molds then rubbed over the gel in the petri-dish dish. The dish is then closed and the molds are allowed to germinate from between 3 to 7 days.

Other than testing for molds, the viable kits are also used to test the quality of air in a house. This is achieved through using two kits which will have one of the petri dishes placed inside the house in one of the rooms and another placed outside the house but as close as possible to the room in which the other dish is placed. The dishes are opened for an hour then closed for 7days. The results should be similar; if not laboratory testing is necessary.

Heating and cooling systems are also tested by the same kits. One just needs to close all the vents of the system except one which is most far from the system itself where the kit is placed. On placing the kit, the system is made to run on high performance for about 10 minutes then stopped to remove the kit. It is later closed and left alone for 7 days to allow the molds that are present to grow so as to draw a conclusion.

It is important for each of these tests to involve a professional especially in checking the exact kind of molds that are being tested. The laboratories will easily identify these factors. It is important to know the kind of molds as some should not be removed by anyone as they are poisonous and will thus require experts to take care of them.

Leaving molds to grow will result in health effects to those in the house with eye irritation and itchiness as the leading issues. Some will also have their conditions flare up more frequently example those who are asthmatic.
