Environmental Benefits Of Recycled Pallets California

By Deanne Shepard

Scientists have been tracking many serious climate issues over the past few decades. They have noticed some alarming trends that indicate a rise in the temperature of the atmosphere. This in turn has caused much of the polar ice to melt and sea levels to rise. Homes and businesses in low lying areas are already feeling the effects of this dramatic shift in the weather patterns.

Much of the damage has been done by people burning too much fossil fuels and changing the composition of the atmosphere. In addition there has been massive deforestation that has also affected the climate. Every small step that can be taken to help slow this alarming trend is of great benefit. One of those steps is the idea of recycled pallets California.

A humble pallet has literally thousands of uses. These simple devices were developed as a way to move goods and cargo around easily. A fork lift truck can simply slide under the pallet and lift the load for quick loading and unloading. Over the years they have not really changed in design or construction, but have continued to be used for many jobs. The save a lot of time and help to get cargo moved around fast.

For many years a damaged or unwanted pallet was simply discarded. Many were chopped up for fire wood or thrown into landfill sites. It was not until the sustainable living movement really took off that people began to realize that this was not only wasteful but totally unnecessary. A pallet can easily be recycled and given a second life. This is especially true if only a small amount of damage has occurred which can easily be repaired. This often happens when a pallet is carelessly handled especially by a new or inexperienced fork lift operator.

It also takes a lot of power to get raw materials into a usable form. The trees have to be felled and dragged out of the woods. They are then trucked to a processing center which all involves a lot of fuel, electricity and pollution. The finished lumber is then trucked to other outlets where it is made into items, including pallets. By reusing as much as possible the new for precious raw materials is reduced.

These distribution centers utilize many thousands of pallets every year. They have found that by spending just a little time on the care and repair of these simple devices can actually save them a lot of money. They have passed this message on to their employees and are finding that basic prevention is the best policy.

It is actually very easy to mend a pallet. The broken piece can be removed quickly and replaced with a new piece of wood, or even one that has been salvaged from another pallet. Salvage is now a big business as it gives many items a second chance.

People do not need to have more than basic carpentry skills to fashion a reasonable repair. A pallet is a simple yet effective design that has not changed in years. A piece or two can be replaced and the original pallet still has many years of wear left in it.
