Collecting Child Support Debt & How Debtors Get Rewarded

By Rob Sutter

If you do a job adequately, you shouldn't be expected to get anything more than a "good job." If you do a job exceedingly well, then rewards might come sooner than you think. However, what I read today on MTV News was nothing short of astounding. It seemed like an article was actually commending a person for paying off child support. For someone who was written for a company working on collecting child support debt and the like, I am left dumbfounded.

As told by MTV News, multi-time platinum record producer named Scott Storch was about to be arrested due to failure to pay child support. A lawyer came out and said that he could avoid such legal troubles once the debt was cleared in a matter of days. Before that time, Storch owed $28,300 to the mother of his child and he missed an appointed court date as well. Hopefully this means he's on the good path but the fact that such a story was published left me flabbergasted.

I don't feel like anyone should be given special praise simply because they did what they were supposed to do. If I had to go run errands per orders of my parents, for example, then I know I don't get much special treatment after giving my father his credit card. This particular man had a child in a relationship that went south, so now he must do his job as a father to help said child. The fact that he failed to do doesn't do well in the minds of others, I'd imagine.

I'm sure that those companies which work in collecting child support debtcould have a field day with this story. These very companies, such as R.R.S., would more than likely see just how much money was owed and be employed to help the mother procure what is owed. These collectors would, more than anything else, assist Storch in a professional manner. If he needs the assistance, then he could rest assured that these organizations would operate in a fair manner.

While I am of the belief that Storch is eligible for help on this matter, I don't think dedicating an entire story on MTV News was worth it. The website wasted space on a story when another report could have been better utilized. In my mind, Storch's story wasn't worth the space utilized. However, as much of a critic as I can be, I'm happy to see that he isn't in such financial peril right now and the worst of his financial issues have come to pass.
