Benefit Of Water In Dun Tennessee Walking Horse

By Elizabeth Williams

For very long periods, human have built strong relationship with the horses. They are common in many ways. They both feel good when they live in organized communities. Family bonds and friendships matter a lot to them. The unique characteristics are related to unique features of their limbic systems. This part of the brain is solely concerned with emotion control, behavior and social bonding. The Dun Tennessee Walking Horse has healthy relationship with humans. Even the disabled individuals can enjoy their moments.

Their bodies need to remain healthy. Every living thing has a large component of water in their body. It is the liquid medium where ingested nutrients dissolve. The body wastes also dissolve in water for easier elimination. Since these animals have large bodies, they need fresh, clean and palatable water severally. It is actually better to give them a free choice to take water whenever they need it.

It is quite hard to know if the animal is dehydrated at earlier stages. This is a very necessary component in metabolic activities. Necessary physiological processes like temperature regulation, digestion, muscle contraction, elimination of waste and contraction of joints need the fluid. Horses require an average of ten gallons per day. They need twice the amount in times of hot weather and strenuous activities.

Most of the horse owners fail to hydrate these animals well. These animals have no option but to adapt to the systems. This may have bad effects on their health. Dehydration begins when you have starved them of water for some hours. Most of their functions begin to decline. Remember that very cold water is not bearable to take. This could result to impaction colic. To avoid this problem, learn to warm the water to desirable levels.

Avoid providing them with stagnant water. This is a breeding place for parasites. It may also be contaminated by the rodents. Sometimes algae grow in stagnant waters. It can become toxic to these animals. Such neglect may lead to poisoning and other illnesses on your animal. Make use of other methods of providing water. There are more hygienic troughs in the market.

If there are new changes in such systems, make sure that your animals understand them. They should be able to take required amounts on their own. Some learn at a fast rate. Other animals require you to teach them for long. They may take long before getting adapted to the changes. In the modern systems, it is possible to fill bucket automatically. Filling and cleaning of the troughs is systematic.

It is important for the horse owners to give frequent amounts to these animals. During periods of strenuous exercise, learn to provide them with electrolyte supplements. This is one precaution that prevents the animals from having serious dehydration. Giving them adequate water and enough electrolytes is a healthy habit.

Apart from losing fluid and electrolytes in exercise, they may also be affected by other conditions. If there is diarrhea, intestinal obstruction, gastric dilation or peritonitis, the animal may lose a lot. They may lead to severe water and electrolyte imbalance. At times, they may require immediate electrolyte administration.
