How Dangerous Prisoner Transport Systems Are

By Stacey Burt

Transporting prisoners from a facility to the other can be very risky. In spite of the fact that this is risky, it is a section of law which cannot be evaded. The danger is due to the plots of the inmates to hack their journey and break out. The movie by Nicolas cage attracted the attention of people to the detail that the transportation period is an opportunity for prisoners to escape. Prisoner transport systems offer the law enforcement agents an opportunity to do this job successfully without essentially exposing themselves to danger.

The rate at which people were incarcerated was not high until the 1980s. Since then, the government thought it was necessary to build multiple prison facilities. Since then the need for the transportation of inmates has increased due to a number of reasons. For instance, there can be administrative transfers for reasons such as health appointments or mental health problems.

There are a large numbers of prisoners who normally get moved to different facilities in a day. In detail, logistics verify that in over 32 correctional centers in the nation, over 200 prisoners are transferred. Very many prisoners consider this their one and best chance to finally get free thus they do some risky things to get away from the guards.

There are many methods that the inmates can utilize to escape from the guards during the movement. One of the ways is through the confronting of the guards. This may even create accidents that are also harmful to innocent citizens at the place of the criminal activity. This is the reason why it is important to specially coach the guards so that they understand how to take care of such situations.

Not every law enforcement officer can be given the responsibility of transporting the inmates. There are some critical qualities that an officer must possess before they can be given this responsibility. For example, they must be able to shoot from moving cars and they should also have a very high level of physical and mental fitness. They must also be capable of detecting unfamiliar situations so that they can stop escape plots before they happen.

The officers usually make a very simple assumption that each and very prisoner is planning to escape. This assumption helps them be extra careful during the task. They will also be able to apply all the precautionary measures possible to avoid regrets. Being observant will also help them to know if there is any car following them.

Communication is among the key factors which can help wardens when there is any escape plot by the inmates. They should be well armed with communication devices that will assist them to ask for assistance if anything takes place. It is very difficult to avert the inmates if they are many compared to the officers. Every single detail must be taken into deliberation during the trip to avoid escape incidents.

However, the assumption that the prisoners can escape does not mean that they are actually planning the escape. For this reason, the officers should not treat them badly because they are assuming they plan to escape. Inmates also have their own human rights and they deserve to be treated fairly.
