How To Proceed When You Do Not Prefer a Job Promotion Offer

By Bill Duggen

As soon as a promotion is offered in the workplace, most people conjure up a picture of better environment at work as well as a fatter pay check. It is just practical that a job promotion would bring about better working environment as well as pay however experts would say that this is always not the case and it should be a decision that is carefully thought of before taking.

Of course, it would not be as easy as it sounds. It could lead you to leaving your team, people who have earned your trust or those you would call family at work. Furthermore, a change of working environment or office can also cause a lot of negative effects which include poor performance for the new job thus leading to termination. It is recommended that you have second thoughts about accepting that great offer.

As soon as you?ve made your mind to turn down the offer, how would you do it without having to compromise your current job or position as well as all the other things and benefits that come along with it? This process is actually quite easy if you?ve been working with the company for some time and have developed a good relationship with its management. With the management already aware of your skills and performance, they can easily trust you of whatever decision you will make. Thus, a simply ?it?s not you but me...? clause to your introduction would be enough.Should a relocation be involved in a promotion which you're not willing to take, simply turn it down by providing an explanation on how the relocation can negatively affect your current situation. One example of such statement for this is ?I would love to say yes to that offer but my children are taking up their last year of high school education in this state and it would be difficult for them to adjust to the new environment?. Or ?I've been wanting to progress through the company however I can't accept that great amount of responsibility now as I am currently tending to my sick mother.? and many more.

Another one way to decline a golden ticket without getting a negative impact is to present them with more company benefits if you are on your current job. As an example, you can say "That is definitely a great offer. I'm sure it pays better than my present job however I've learned a few things on what my position requires and I believe that I can excel in doing those.?

You can also have a different approach in rejecting an offer by learning about the offered position and finding a way that the skill requirements does not suit you. The key to doing this is to have them picture the kind of environment you are in as well as the things that you would rather do with your current set of skills. Show the difference in your performance when on the offered job and when on your current job.

The process of turning down a promotion is actually a bit challenging because it is out of the ordinary and it is simply trying to deny what your bosses want. Fortunately, as you've read this content you can now turn down any offer you don't like without having to compromise anything.
