Run Injury Free By Improving Your Stride

By Darrel Jefferson

The winter will be thawing out in the coming months, and so too will your running shoes. Jogging season is coming back into full swing this spring and it's time to get back into the game.

But whether the upcoming procedure is your first or your tenth, the need for preparation is constant. You should always strive to be fully prepared before heading into the operating room so that your recovery time can be shortened and so that you will be able to cope with any limitations that the recovery period brings.

Although every part of your stride shouldn't be dictated, there are 3 key points to focus on that will improve your stride. Read through the following and have a friend follow behind you to see if you're doing any of the following.

By becoming as physically fit and healthy as possible in the months leading up to a surgery you will be able to boost your body's ability to heal faster than if you are out of shape and unhealthy. To accomplish this and become physically fit for surgery, you can begin as far in advance as possible by working out regularly and by eating healthy meals.

Heel striking jars your leg with each stride. When you do too much of it, you can do serious injury to your body-which can lead to season ending Electro Surgery. Landing on the balls of your feet allows your body to cushion the bone-jarring impact better. There are shoes that will help you strike on the balls of your feet instead of the heels.

Explaining when a child will be able to come home, and the reasons why they may not be able to come home the same day, can help call the nerves of the child before the surgery.

The less you lean back (and run on your heels) the less painful your runs (and ultimately, the less troubles you will have with injuries and Electro Surgery). Lean slightly forward to aid your running posture. Swing your arms forward.

Alterations to the home that may aid in your recovery from surgery often include things such as a shower stool, raised toilet seat, temporary ramps, and a grasping device to help you reach things from a seated position. Additionally, if a walker or crutches will be needed following your procedure, these items may want to be secured before the surgery date.

Crossing your body will make your shoulders twist right to left. This takes too much energy and reduces your total forward motion. Your natural desire will be to tighten up your shoulders and lift up as you get tired. This destroys the forward movement of your arms and makes them flail.

This is becoming less of an importance, however, as modern surgical procedures that utilize electro surgical equipment limit blood loss during surgery. But even with the use of electro surgical equipment, it is best to be prepared by donating blood beforehand.

Improved running health translates into more injury-free exercise from day to day. Every day you avoid an injury (or indeed Electro Surgery) is a great day to be running. You will spend less time inside thinking about running and more time with the thrill of the drumming of your feet as you explore the warmer world. Begin improving your form as you start your next season.
