Tackling Fear And Doubt When Starting A Business

By Cornelius Nunev

Starting a small business is difficult, especially on the emotional level. Too many people allow fear and uncertainty to overpower them before they even begin. Here are a few tips for dealing with fear and uncertainty, adopting personal growth and opening the door to business success.

Step No. 1: There should be no excuses

For all the reasons a person struggling with anxiety and uncertainty can devise as to why their small company idea will not work, there are just as many excuse tags that can be affixed to those reasons. Not having the time, money or energy to embark on a small company venture are all ultimately short-term excuses. It's your life, and there's no better time to work on individual growth than the present. If you stay away from making excuses, you can move forward and make things occur yourself and your business.

Step No. 2: Do not be afraid

Whenever you feel anxiety and doubt, it will only increase your chances of success is entering a new business. You will not make poor decisions about finances if you are scared, and it will help your company to success. Hit it head on and you should be very successful. Do not feel alone; everybody experiences fear, specifically when it comes to beginning a brand new business.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

- The Bene Gesserit "Litany Against Fear" from Frank Herbert's "Dune" (1965).

Step No. 3: Leave your safe place

If you get out of your comfort zone and start talking to people, you will be much more successful. You need to be willing to make connections and get help. It is process of getting things started, and it takes a ton of hard work. Avoid being scared by getting the help, and get out of your comfort zone to help your business succeed.

Step No. 4: Be sure you do it

You need to first commit to the process and then finish it. It is always hard to try and get through every little thing without doubting yourself, but you will be much better off if you put the idea into motion and never stop. One little bump in the road should not be enough to break your spirits and stop you. Make sure you take action; do not just wish and hope.
