White And Colored Nursing Uniforms

By Adriana Noton

Some nursing uniforms are sparkling white while some are colored. Sparkling white nursing garbs and the colorful ones perform the same roles. Some nurses prefer colored tunics and others white tunics. Some like sparkling white pants others have a liking for navy blue pants.

Inside a modern hospital, most medical personnel have white aprons. In the hospitals of the earlier centuries when nursing was still a very new concept, doctors used to wear white aprons just as the modern doctors. Nurses were required to wear grayish dresses. Some nurses used to accompany the grayish dresses with white aprons. The aprons were optional for nurses.

The grey dress was a favorite of Florence Nightingale. Every nurse in the world knows who this eminent person is. Some scholars consider Nightingale to be the mother of nursing. This nurse features in a number of books some of which contain medical information and some which contain historic information. Most historians have lauded the role Nightingale played in saving lives during Crimean war.

As time progressed, white dresses became the standard apparel of this profession. The color white was preferred partly because of its symbolism. On one end, the color white symbolizes peace and on the other end it symbolizes cleanliness. In this profession, the main reason for the love of the color white can be speculated to be the fact that white symbolizes cleanliness and hygiene. Lack of hygiene is the major cause of many diseases while hygienic living prevents many diseases.

A nurse in white apparel can be easily traced by a patient. White is a very visible color even if one is in a crowd. Very few people wear white dresses therefore a person adorned in a white dress will be easily traced in a crowd. It reached a time in this profession when colored garbs were more popular than the white ones. Colored attire is preferred by many people because they do not show stains and dirt. This makes them to be used for a long period of time without being washed. However, with white attire, one will be forced to wash it on a regular basis because it reveals stains. Irrespective of the color of nursing attire, it should be washed on a regular basis.

The favorite color and style of one person is not the favorite color and style of another person. This also applies to nurses. One nurse may like a full dress that is purely white while another nurse may prefer a black pair pants with a purely white apron. Some hospitals don't give nurses the freedom to choice. Some organizations have dress codes and all members of the organization are supposed to stick to the dress code.

In earlier centuries, it was a requirement for all nurses to put on long dresses and to cover the dresses with aprons. Many nurses complained that dresses were not comfortable and were hard to work in. As a result of the complaints, tunics and pants started to be used. Pants are very comfortable.

Nursing uniforms as well as Mobb Medical come in varied colors. However, one will not find these garbs in some colors such as red and green. These medical attires also have different designs.
