Living In One Of The Seattle Retirement Communities Is A Good Decision

By Paul Nash

You can find great Seattle retirement communities though most of these communities are usually built in warm places, and are common in Arizona, California, Florida and Texas. A retirement community, or active adult community, is a really broad, generic term that covers many varieties of housing for retirees and seniors - especially designed or geared for people who no longer work, or limited to those over a certain age. It differs from a retirement home which is a single building or small complex where no "common areas" for socializing are available.

Many retirement communities are designed for that reason, and have special facilities catering to the needs and wants of retirees, which includes extensive amenities such as clubhouses, swimming pools, arts and crafts, boating, trails, golf courses, active adult retail and on-site healthcare facilities. Other facilities have no or very few common amenities. An age-restricted community normally requires at least one household resident to be 55 years old or older (occasionally 50 or 60 years old).

A common advantage to living in a retirement community is the relationships people make with other residents in the community. Many older folks are choosing to place their last roots in a retirement community so as to live near other retired folk. They are interested in chilling out with folk that share similar interest, living conditions and are the same age.

You can often find recreational rooms that hold special events and games, you may find an exercise facility as well as a swimming pool and spa. One thing you may find there that you might not find at a mobile home park is a laundry room and showers. These types of retirement community facilities accommodate the needs you would have while traveling on the road. You will meet many good friends at one of these places and the chances are, you will hook up with them again in your travels. There are other types of retirement community places that are similar, but they house RVs and motor homes or travel trailers. You can belong to a group and pay a certain fee for staying at these types of places. They often offer many of the same amenities as you would find in a mobile home park.

A couple decided to reside in one of the Seattle retirement communities for the last ten years of their lives and it proved to be a good decision. It made moving through the continuum a lot easier. They had people they knew to help them make their own decisions. Residing in a CCRC can decrease worry for both the resident and his loved ones. Continuing care retirement communities can be a beneficial place for widows. After a spouse dies, the widow or widower often starts to self-isolate while grieving. The other residents don't impose themselves when someone has lost a spouse, but it's safe to talk to someone in the dining room and the neighbors. Essentially, it is a social network that keeps people functioning and motivated.
