Driving School Basic Information

By Mark Kingston

Many of us who currently know how to drive learnt to do so from either trial and error or by being tutored by other amateurs such as our friends and family. In either case, there were risks involved which gradually diminished as we became more skillful and comfortable behind the wheel. The best and safest way to learn how to drive is to enroll in driving school.

Professionalism Learning how to drive the professional way is one reason people enroll. As we mentioned, people learn how to drive in different ways. Most are taught by friends and relatives. These are obviously not professional and while helpful knowledge and skill is gained, habits which are detrimental to driving are also gained. Driving school then is an excellent idea to correct this.

People also enroll in driving school in order to deal with a traffic violation. This is mostly where they have been mandated by a judge. In the US, it is illegal drive without valid insurance and if one is caught doing so two consecutive times in a 12 month time, they could have their driver's license suspended. If this happens, then one can only drive if they have SR-22. In many cases, one has to show driver responsibility to get an SR-SS.

We have seen that those who enroll in driving school are not necessarily first time drivers. These are mostly people who have been cited for traffic violations and want to make good with a traffic judge. Enrolling in driving school is therefore a way for them to show they are making amends.

This is a certificate that allows you do drive even with suspended license if you agree to purchase proof of insurance. When faced with this probability, a judge may order that you enroll in defensive driving or face the suspension of your license.

Driving schools enhance driver responsibility. This is one reason why even seasoned drivers also sign up. This, as we said, is all part of proving responsibility on the road and making a commitment to safety.

One other reason why people find themselves in driving schools is if they are first time drivers and they want to pass the driving test. When one applies for a driver's license, they have to sit for an oral exam first. This mostly involves rudimentary knowledge of traffic signs and traffic lingo.

After they pass this, then the Department of Public Safety administers the actual driving test where an official of the department sits with you in the same car and asks you to drive while he or she grades you. This can be an intimidating experience especially if it is one's first time or when the tester requests one to do something which the driver is not thoroughly familiar.

  1. The key to any good defensive driving strategy is knowing how to avoid traffic crashes and recognize potential hazards before it’s too late. That’s why defensive driving courses tend to present a lot of information on crash prevention techniques.
