Trying Times At Craft Shows

By Geoffrey Higgins

I ready the box filled with my girlfriend's crafts, and try to fit them in my car. Things have been difficult as of late, what with the financial recession and all. Fortunately, me and my girlfriend share this part-time that let us gain some extra income. With the recent loss of my job, I get to focus more attention to this endeavor of ours.

It's been two years now that we've been going to selected craft shows. At first, it was just a little something we did to make us a bit of extra cash by selling my girlfriend's unique line of jewelry: She made inexpensive jewelry that was practical and inexpensive.

But that's the beauty of it all. As these items that she pieces together are cheap, they fit perfectly here in the Sunshine State. They are the perfect accessories for beach wear, as it is quite dim for a person to wear something expensive. She might lose it in the waves, after all.

And my girlfriend happens to have a good eye for fashion, too. The material is cheap, but the finish certainly isn't. You just have to see the intricate pattern of her earrings, the simplistic beauty of her bracelets. They are very beautiful.

I finish loading the boxes into the car, and await her to come out. All things considered, we're lucky we have a house to live in and a car that's fully paid. Even without a steady income, I have high hopes for the future.

Why shouldn't it? Our income from selling these crafts has been really good once we got the hang of maneuvering the craft show business. All it took was a little Internet surfing, and a bit of elbow grease. It hasn't been a walk in the park, but it took a lot of patience and hard work to get where we were.
