However, this is a prerequisite in just 18 states, the remaining 32 have a particular form that must be completed and then a specific fee must be paid. For instance, a lay notary is not allowed to give legal counsel normally. Although in Louisiana, this is allowed, so you are in luck if that is where you are.

In Florida, these individuals are allowed to take care of the following: Deal with affidavits, preparing inventories for safe deposit boxes, certify copies, solemnize marriages and create or draft dishonored cheque protests. These are vital tasks that contribute significantly to people's daily legal problems.

While duties differ per state, the one most common thing all these professionals can do is draft or take oaths and acknowledgments. This occupation can truly be limited but if it is something you want to pursue, check what you will be permitted to do in which state. Therefore you know if you should relocate to an area where you have more responsibility.
