Military Discounts Colorado Springs Are A Demonstration Of Gratitude

By Tamika Powell

America became a nation only after fight a revolutionary war, and the drafters of the constitution recognized that the need for a standing force would be permanent. Perhaps more than any other nation, the structure and capability of armed forces was a national requirement. This is all the more clear today, and recently society has decides to show appreciation in such ways as military discounts Colorado Springs.

The American perception and valuation of its service members waxes and wanes, with significant differences during a conflict and during peaceful times. In the past, notable the conflict in Vietnam, the public sentiment against the war directly impacted the treatment of the veterans fighting. While they had little input into the political reasoning for the conflict, they were still vilified for having participated.

Even without the anomaly of Vietnam, the period following a national conflict which employs the armed forces is almost always followed by a concerted effort at significant reduction of forces. The public sympathies for its soldiers is high during a conflict, but they are not as appreciated in the aftermath, when the cost of maintaining an able force is deemed significant and even unnecessary.

Because of fortuitous geography, the United States has enjoyed a separation from most other countries and their conflicts, by the pacific and Atlantic oceans, fight had never taken place at home. While this was great for the citizens, it resulted in a lack of understanding of many impacts of battle on innocent populations and their lives. It also made it nearly impossible for citizens to understand the trauma and problems of the soldiers fighting.

Things have changed dramatically for the American people, long sheltered from war by two protective and isolating oceans. No war had ever come to the united States, even when Pear harbor was attacked, not only was it a distant island, it was not yet a state. The attack on the twin towers was as violent a change as any nation could ever experience, and it impact still reverberates.

This new war on terror began differently as well, with the unbelievable attack on American soil. It some sense it may be this fact, that it can happen here at home that has made the biggest change in public view of the armed forces. There is no question at this time as to whether or not it is necessary to have the capability to defend and protect the nation.

In the decade that this conflict has been fought, another important difference is the recognition f the damage war causes. Innocent civilian fatalities are now faces seen on television nightly, and the public recognizes them as people, not just collateral damage. The plight of soldiers returning from the battlefield with injuries, physical and mental, are also much more in the spotlight.

With embedded media and the internet, the conflict is now real for all citizens. The sacrifices and difficulties of the individual soldiers is recognized in a new way. The idea of saying thanks in as many ways as possible has led to such efforts as military discounts Colorado Springs.
