Business And Finance: Corporate Travel Management

By Edward Miller

History will tell that Cox and Kings, a British travel company that was founded way back in 1758 is the pioneer business trip management company that catered to wealthy clients at that time. In the UK, travel companies usually are grouped into three: multiples, miniples and independent companies. Multiples are companies that are known to cater to national chains. These are basically owned by international multinational corporations or group of companies. On the contrary, miniples are companies that cater to clients regionally. Independent companies are travel institutions that cater to a special market.

A travel management company can be a private dealer or a public facility providing the public services in relation to tourism. People who run this type of company often act as a third party between suppliers and customers. The suppliers, airlines, hotels and package tours to name a few are the ones offering tourism services while the consumers are those who pay for such offered services.

Most of the time, travel companies secure a department to deal with the trip arrangements. Corporate travel is usually a sub-department of travel agencies that has headquarters from other parts of the globe. This department deals with commercial travellers or business travellers alone.

Usually, the staff in this branch secures strategic approaches when it comes to travel management. They ensure constant communication with the travel suppliers and customers to ensure a smooth sailing travel itinerary for travellers. They also guarantee the safety and security and travel expenses of travellers all throughout the travel period.

A travel company shouldn't be compared to a corporate travel company. The former is the whole management while the latter is just a section and is more hands-on. On the other hand, both of these companies often get commission for every reservation made and flight booked. However the presence of Internet has changed this. Airlines and hotels, along with other suppliers are now offering services directly to customers. Travel companies responded by creating their own travel websites. A good move!
