Also, qualification as a PI can only be given to individuals who are 21 years and above.

The US has different ways of applying for licenses in the various states. However, in all states, the licensing and regulatory body must be provided with references from professional and personal sources, notarized applications, and fingerprints by applicants. Also, applicants must also pay the fee for application and submit proof of surety bonds, education, and experience.

After placing an application for a license, one is required to take a jurisprudence examination. Candidates are also assessed on laws and procedural protocols. If PIs are allowed to bear firearms, applicants must undergo a mandatory firearms training. When hiring, an inquiry agent, one must ensure that they have achieved all the requirements discussed above.

Private investigators may operate their own independent firms or may work for agencies engaged in private investigation operations. Their work is usually contract-based. As contractors, PIs can be employed in different industries such as law enforcement, cyber crime, and human resource teams.
