The Importance Of Ice Fishing Houses

By Dorothy Barnes

Ice fishing activities are practiced in frosty regions since these areas are entirely infested by snow. These practices are carried out in several ways. For instance, fishermen may decide to capture fish openly or when accommodated in a special housing structure. These special structures are referred to as ice fishing houses. They are constructed to mimic usual residential units hence providing fishermen with a favorable environment for them to engage in fish catching endeavors.

Cheap ice shanties are made of plastic tarp and frames. Expensive ones on the other hand contain utilities such as electricity, heat, cooking structures and bunks. Expensive and durable shanties are usually left on the frozen water body until a fishing season is over. This is, however, proves to be challenging because there are times when such shanties are trapped in thaws.

These housing structures form an integral part of the lives of those who inhabit snow infested regions. To be precise, most fishermen decorate these structures with appealing materials. Also, these shanties are diverse in design. They are meant to make fish catching more comfortable and efficient because snow regions are characterized by extremely low temperatures.

Housing structures are normally dragged to a frozen water body using snowmobiles or truck. This process is carried out by a knowledgeable driver to ensure that the structures reach their expected destination successfully. This is because snow and thaws are also barriers to transport whenever a truck is towing a fish house. Snowmobiles are motor powered devices that allow transportation of loads in frosty regions.

There are areas in the world where ice fishing is considered as a leisure activity. In such areas, some resorts comprise of fish shanties to give tourists a glimpse of how fish is captured in frozen lakes. Also, there are snow track cars that mimic snowmobiles. These cars facilitate movement around the frozen mass of water. This leisure activity has provided many people with employment opportunities.

The process of extracting fish over a frozen mass of water for domestic and economic use has transformed over the centuries. To be precise, people drilled holes on frozen lakes before catching fish. This was carried out in the old days. Present day methods of capturing fish within snow infested grounds are efficient. For example, fishermen utilize special anglers to get the precise location of a fish ground.

Fishermen in snow infested regions are also able to extract sea creatures any time of the day. This has been enabled by the shanties that provide usual housing amenities. These housing structures have bedding and toilets to provide a fisherman a comfortable stay. Most of them can accommodate approximately six people at a time.

There are multiple risks caused by housing structures placed on frozen lakes. Emission of carbon gasses by the heaters used in shanties is one of the risks. This risk can, however, be curbed by the installation of air conditioners that filter poisonous gasses. Frost-bites may also form on the walls of the accommodation facilities. This is another risk that hinders a housing structure from being moved to another location.
