One of the terms that gets flung around, especially during presidential campaign seasons, is "job creators." A lot of things can be job creators, apparently even tacos as Taco Bell's Doritos Locos tacos supposedly added 15,000 jobs to Taco Bell's payrolls.
Idea with Doritos
One of those "TED" Talks had Nick Hanauer on it. As a founding buyer in Amazon, he said that customers are more responsible for job creation than companies are.
If people want a commodity, that demand gives rise to producing a chain of supply. Executives and venture capitalists, in essence, have their jobs produced by the demand.
TED's executives buried the footage, which is now accessible on YouTube. Apparent-ly they didn't want to bruise executive egos.
He had a point. Taco Bell just proved it. Ever hear of those "Doritos Locos" tacos, where they use Doritos chips to make a taco shell? According to the Daily Mail, they've proven so popular that it's added 15,000 jobs to Taco Bell payrolls.
Way too many supporters
The correlation between a taco and 15,000 jobs being produced was not quite explained by Taco Bell, and probably because it does not make sense. It seems silly that so many jobs would come from one item on the menu.
When Taco Bell first started the taco, it was tested in a few areas where it was extremely successful. Then, it was released throughout the whole country. The one item made up a quarter of all Taco Bell taco sales, according to the Christian Science Monitor, and over 375 million were sold in 2012.
It costs under $2 to get the Dorito taco, which means you do not need a whole lot of personal money to get the taco. It has 160 calories and 10 grams of fat in the Nacho Cheese flavor. The Cool Ranch flavor, recently released, has 140 calories and 7 grams of fat.
Apparently a big deal
People have gone absolutely crazy over the Doritos tacos. It does not make any sense, but it is what people are doing. It was just like what occurred with the McRibs, which were also gross.
Apparently people are just nuts.
