Details About Breast Augmentation Daytona Beach

By Edward Powell

Breast augmentation is a surgical operation that is used for increasing the size of breasts. This is made possible through the use of implants that are placed either beneath chest muscles or under breast tissues. There are different reasons for women to consider the surgery. For once, it could be to build their confidence while others opt for it for reconstruction of breasts after some conditions. The surgery is done by plastic surgeons. When considering breast augmentation Daytona beach residents ought to be versed with the procedure.

It is also done for restoring symmetry of breasts which are not symmetrical. The surgical procedure includes reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. The surgery could also be done as part of treatment for breast cancer. There are various types of implants that can be used. The first type are saline implants that are filled with a saline solution that is sterile. An example is salt water. The implants are filled with different amounts of saline and affect firmness, feel and shape of breasts.

The other option are silicone implants that are gel-filled. Their outer shell has silicone which is filled with gel. If there are leaks, the gel stays within the shell or in some cases they will escape into implant pockets. When a patient opts for this option, they will need to have regular checkups, which is not the case with saline implants. For checking the condition of the implants, there is use of ultrasound or MRI.

Prior to the surgery, the surgeon will assist their patient with selection of right implant sizes. They can do that through placement of different sizes into bras to see their feel. The procedure mostly requires general anesthetic, meaning the patient will be asleep. In some cases however, local anesthesia is used, in which case the patient will be awake.

The type of incision that is used is dependent on a number of factors such as the level of enlargement and the anatomy of a patient. It also depends on type of implants and preferences of the surgeon and patient. There will then be insertion and placement of the implant. There is sub muscular and sub mammary placement. The former goes under pectoral muscles while the latter goes behind breast tissues.

The closing of the incisions is done using layered sutures and in some cases stitches. In order to ensure they are closed, there could be use of skin adhesive or surgical tape. In the early stages, the incision lines are visible. They fade away over time. There is swelling that is experienced after surgery but it disappears after two weeks. It is at that time that a patient can assess whether they had their expectations met.

As the anesthetic starts to wear off, one will be given painkillers that help to relieve pain. After treatment, patients should find someone to drive them home because it is not advisable to drive in their condition at the time. Sutures should usually fade after 6 weeks. If the ones used are the ones that do not dissolve, there will need to be follow up appointments to remove them.

Just as is the case with surgical procedures, there are risks that one should expect. In the first place, one might need to go for another surgery after 2or three years. For some patients, surgery is needed to have the implants removed.
