People are naturally music fans. Not that you can expect everybody to pick every genre there is in the history of songs, because there is no such thing. When you love it, sometimes, you favour a certain style or genre. Rock, ballad, a little of both, pop or country, the list goes on for the type you listen to.
However the one that goes back decades ago are arguably unrivalled. Especially when you consider playing them in one turntable cartridge. Gramophones may be a thing of the past, but not to the old soul who appreciates golden era of records when they first hit the radio.
There is just something about that tool that makes you play you play songs you have grown up with over and over again. Maybe it is the knowledge that you have kept them for so long and they still sound as good as ever. Maybe it is the memories you associate with it.
If it was not for their influence, you would not have seen a Taylor Swift, Maroon Five or Ed Sheeran being inspired to become their own artists. Mind you, they too, may have inherited old records that keep them motivated. After all, there is nothing like quiet evenings spent with your favorite songs played on a gramophone, as if you have gone back in time.
Not that they are cheap, because they are not. Of course there is more to it than that. Cleaning can only do so much because every time you play a record, it becomes worn out over time. It does stand the test of the time and proof of that is the fact that these things are most commonly sold in vintage shops.
This is not entirely true because these things are packaged most of the time with various models and designs. If yours is a vintage that have been used already and not brand new, you would find it hard to know whether or not the original cartridge is still in place.
The table itself is a good place to begin with, so you can check this to be sure. Most of the time, it is stamped on the body. Other times you can find it in the housing it and that would make your task of finding out what you should use, easier. Just take the time to research so you would not be stuck in determining the differences, as you may have to buy your own later on.
To be on the safe side, go ahead and do your research. Ask those who are more versed in the functionality of turntables and you may just be able to choose a better model for your old one. Then again, if that is too obsolete, then you can settle for what you have.
