How To Find Low Cost Landscape Supplies

By Martha Watson

There are many ways to save big bucks on landscape supplies. Doing any project can be costly, and finding ways to reduce those costs can end up saving a lot of money if you know where to look and what to do.

End of season sales are a great place to pick things up at a much lower cost than at the beginning of a season. Try to plan ahead as much as possible and buy things when the stores are clearing them out to make room for others, and it is possible to save a lot of money. This might mean delaying the project for a year, but it will likely result in significant savings.

Look in the classifieds. Sometimes people buy too much and try to sell what they have remaining. Nobody expects to pay full price for second hand goods, which they are, even if they have not been used. Check the local paper as well as the many online classifieds in most areas. It can be surprising how many items are available at a lower cost than retail. Many people grow annuals and sell them at a lower cost than stores, or are thinning out perennials and will sell or give them away, so this can also be a good place to find needed greenery.

More and more places are popping up that accept used or unneeded building and landscape materials. Buying them at a location like this helps to reuse and recycle and is also an effective way of saving lots of money. Sometimes higher priced items can be found that are definitely lower cost than buying from a retail store.

Wait for a sale. Watch for advertisements and check online to see if there is a good sale anywhere nearby before you buy anything. Even saving the tax at a sale can mean saving a lot of money in the long run. When a sale is on, try to pick up everything that you can afford to get. Sometimes buying it all from one place can mean you can negotiate a better price, or perhaps free delivery if the items are large enough to warrant that.

Learn new ways to do things. Do it yourself websites are a perfect way to reduce costs and learn new skills. Many times a project's costs can be slashed by using less expensive materials and learning techniques to make inexpensive materials look like they were top dollar. Many times it can save significant amounts of money and the end result will be better than expected.

Let everyone know what you are looking to buy. Use social media to your advantage and get the word out to friends, who can then let their other friends know what you are seeking. This can be a super way to find things and maybe round up some help in doing the heavy work as well!

Saving money on a project can be very easy and very rewarding. Watch the savings pile up by being frugal and checking out different options, it can be a real money saver.
