Following Tsa Rules Is A Travel Requirement

By Donald Green

All too often we turn on the television to see a plane that has mysteriously fallen into the ocean or broken apart in mid-flight. Most of us have moments of anxiety when we think about flying. There is so much about the situation we have no control over. The Transportation Security Administration, tsa, was created in an attempt to make our flying experience as safe as possible. That is why abiding by the guidelines and tsa rules are so important.

Frequent fliers know what to expect and usually have everything ready for the inspector before they even get to the front of the line. People who are unaccustomed to flying often are unsure about what they are supposed to do and what is permitted to take with them. There are some rules that are simply common sense, and others that can be confusing. One thing you need to know is that anyone over eighteen must have some kind of identification with them at all times.

Most people know that they will have to take their shoes off when they go through security, but some individuals still insist on wearing complicated footwear that is cumbersome and hard to remove. You can always take off your shoes while you are waiting in line so that people behind you are not held up.

You can carry on items of personal hygiene such as shampoo, deodorant, perfume, lotion, and hand sanitizer, but the tsa limits the size of the containers. Some people buy empty containers so that they can fill them with specific brands. It is really easier though to purchase small, pre-filled bottles of shampoo, deodorant, and other items. They are readily available at most pharmacies, supermarkets, and the big chain stores.

Any medication you need can be taken with you when you board the plane. Placing them in a plastic bag may expedite the process, but that is not required. Frequent fliers will tell you that you should keep medicine with you and not packed in checked baggage. The x-ray machines currently in use by airport security should not affect your medications in any way. If you have concerns though, it is permissible to ask a security guard to check the items instead of scanning them.

Most people know that smoking is not permitted on an airplane, but some have questions about e cigarettes. There is no problem packing them in checked luggage, but whether or not you will be allowed to use one during a flight is something you need to talk to the airline about.

Every year we see news reports about the ridiculous things people try to sneak on board their flights. Some routinely attempt to get guns, knives, swords, box cutters, and other items that are clearly prohibited, into the passenger area of the plane. If individuals are caught, they can face stiff penalties and even jail time. Hunting rifles and other sports gear are permitted in the baggage section of the plane, but there are stringent rules that apply.

Everyone wants to get where they are going as safely and as quickly as possible. You can do your part by following the rules and regulations that the TSA enforces.
