Team Events: Creating The Buzz!

By Richard Tyler

Team Events: Getting it right

If you have run Team Events before or want to run one in days to come I would imagine a great amount of time, energy and cost will be ploughed in. To get an event exactly right so as it meets all of the agreed outcomes, need you to be focused and committed. You put a lot in and therefore expect to get alot deal out. I'm sure you agree sounds reasonable!

There'll be tons of different types of events open to you and your team: duck herding, treasure hunts, speed knitting, bogey spotting, high speed head shaving. Actually, the list is unending. But how do you ensure that they create the right buzz for you?

Team Events: Buzzing!

I was fortunate enough to be able to appear in Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre in London when it celebrated its tenth anniversary. I was even luckier to get an invite back last year to play a part in the 'Dream cast ' for the Phantom 25th birthday celebrations at the Royal Albert Hall. It had been a fully staged production that we put together in 2 weeks!! Phenomenal talent, vision and perserverance made it possible.

The technical rehearsal in theatre is the moment when the company plods through the show to be sure everything fits together at the right point, in the best way and safely! The Phantom 25th tech was long. There had been a good deal to do with a tight time frame. 2 days later we'd have 5000 people watching us live and it would be beamed worldwide for 1000's more to watch. Yikes!

Nonetheless the buzz backstage was extraordinary. We were hungry to drink it all in. They wished to be there, as they wanted to perform a role in an extraordinary piece of melodramatic history. A performance arena creates this atmosphere. It whips up fervour, as every company member knows that without it, the production can fall flat. The anticipation of making something new instils a commitment in individuals that is exciting.

Team Events: Getting your buzz?

Here at Buildingateam BTFI, we suspect that all events should have that real same buzz. They should generate similar levels of commitment so that when you go back to your company following the event, you can all duplicate that very same belt of zeal and energy.

We design and run astonishing events for leaders that want to have unusual men and women in an incredible organisation. We use singing, music and the arts to open the possibility that rests with everybody. If you are content having Team Events that only keep you being 'good ', maybe consider Speed Knitting or Duck Herding.
