Silver.Ag Manual: How To Clean Your Silver Necklace

By Jan Pavlik

People have been wearing silver for thousands of years, and one of the most common problems that they associate with it is the fact that it can begin to fade and tarnish over time. If you own a silver necklace and you want to know how to keep it looking as if you have just bought it, then consider some of the following tips.

Probably the most simple method of keeping your silver necklace clean will be to get a toothbrush and simply rub and scrub the necklace with white toothpaste. Once you have done this then you can rest off the toothpaste using warm water and then use a cloth in order to give the necklace a bit of a polish. If you do this regularly then the necklace should remain very clean and shiny.

You could also make a cleaning paste using three parts baking soda and one part water. Scrub the necklace using this paste, rinse it in hot water, and then wipe it down. As an alternative to this you could simply soak the necklace in hot water to which you have added some baking soda for about five minutes.

You could also add an aluminium sheet and the necklace into a few inches of water that is boiling in a pan. Once the water is boiling then add in a couple of tablespoons of baking soda and then allow the whole mixture to boil for roughly 5 minutes. After this time has lapsed then remove the necklace and rinse it off.

Of course, as an alternative to all of these you can also go and purchase a silver polish. Simply use a brush in order to apply the polish, and then follow the instructions that are set out with the product.

These are just a few different things that you could try, and any of them should have some decent results.
