To Become A Notary Public Oklahoma Candidates Need To Be Above Reproach

By Carl Wilson

Modern life is extremely complicated and governed by numerous rules, laws and regulations. People no longer make agreements by making a pledge and shaking hands on it. That type of trust simply does not exist any longer. Instead, every modern agreement is clothed in complicated legal terminology and has to be signed, witnessed, notarized, filed and often even served. This is why notaries play such an important role in modern life. By appointing a notary public Oklahoma authorities say that they have utter trust in the integrity of the person employed.

Notaries have their origin in ancient Rome where scribes slowly but surely began to take on more responsibilities. From copying text they proceeded to record proceedings to bear witness at events and to record speeches. Nowadays notaries are appointed by the government and in some countries by the high court. Appointments are sometimes on a permanent basis but often for a limited period only with an option to renew.

The most common duty performed by notaries is to certify that copies of documents are true and exact copies of the original. They also often administer oaths, which are pledges by an individual that he will speak only the truth and nothing but the truth. This is done in court cases, when affidavits are made or when someone wants to record the exact nature of a specific event.

Taking depositions and affidavits is also a routine task performed by notaries. This is always done under oath. Depositions are used to replace verbal evidence in a court case when circumstances do not allow the witness to personally give testimony. In order to perform this function well, many notaries are also qualified as stenographers. Affidavits are made by people that need a formal record related to a matter.

In some countries notaries are licensed to perform wedding ceremonies but only if the couple involved has obtained a marriage license beforehand. A marriage is, after all, a legal agreement. Notaries also record and witness other types of agreements, either business related or private agreements between two individuals. He will make sure that all parties understand the terms of the agreement.

Notaries are often called upon to act as witnesses that a specific event or act has taken place. Those attempting world records, for example, will need someone that can certify that the rules were followed and that a specific result was achieved. The courts also sometimes require notaries to make sure that court orders have been followed, such as when someone is ordered to vacate premises or to perform a specific act.

Every task performed by notaries has to be recorded. The format of these records is prescribed by law and differs from one country to the next. These records are very important because they constitute prove that a specific agreement has been made, that a particular oath has been administered or that a specific event has occurred. The very existence of these records are often enough to prevent disputes.

Notaries play an important role in making sure that procedures are followed, that agreements are legal, that transactions are fair and that justice is served. Their reputations are such that their word in a matter is often considered to be the final one. They are part of the everyday lives of everyone.
