Useful Information On Dry Ice Blasting Services

By James Smith

This is a method of abrasive blasting that utilizes carbon dioxide to clean a surface. Dry ice is a form of carbon dioxide that is solidified. The process is accelerated in a pressurized air stream using a pump that is directed in to a surface that needs cleaning. It is a safe and environmentally friendly method since it does not contain any chemicals that can be harmful to the persons doing the process. Today, many businesses offer Dry Ice Blasting Services.

This method involves propelling the dry ice pellets at extremely high velocity on to a surface. When the pellets hit the surface they produce minimum abrasion to surfaces. This is because the dry ice pellets are quite soft compared to other blasting materials like sand. The impact causes the generation of heat that result to the sublimation process.

Shear stress occurs when a lot of heat is absorbed during sublimation process. The application of stress improves the level of cleaning. There is less heat on the top than the underlying surface. This causes easily flaking in the film of dirt on top. This therefore leaves the surface clean. The surface needs to have good thermal conductivity in order to get effective results.

The procedures used in dry ice blasting are mainly single-hose and two-hose blasting. The two-horse method involves the use of different hose pipes to deliver the compressed air and the dry ice pellets. They are sucked by the use of the scheme effect. On the other hand the single-hose blasting entails the use of only one hose pipe in the delivery of the compressed air and the pellets. This type is more efficient as compared to the two-hose procedure.

A single system can clean up heavier layers of dirt at a faster rate because of the power and force involved in this process. Unlike the two-hose method, the single-hose technique can use a long hose without a drop in pressure at any point. The single-hose approach can also make use of quickly cycling air lock because of its features. This prevents potential risks related with the blasting process.

This method is widely used to clean food processing equipment and to effectively decontaminate surfaces. It can decontaminate surfaces with microorganisms that cannot be detected by simple conventional methods. It is a safe method that it can clean surfaces without causing any fire related hazards. Hence it can be used in various types of solvent based cleaning. It is also used to clean surfaces in the aerospace industries. This is because it utilizes the sublimation process that does not leave a residue behind.

Dry ice blasting uses a combination of forces that enables a surface to be cleaned without any damage. It does not leave any residue since it utilizes the sublimation principle hence no harmful secondary waste is left behind.

Safety is important when carrying out the procedure. The carbon dioxide in the dry ice can easily displace the oxygen in the air if the procedure is done in a place with poor ventilation. This can lead to choking and finally death. Hence the room should be properly ventilated. One should also wear proper gear to protect themselves from noise.
