How To Lay A Best Gopher Trap

By Joshua Hall

People who have a big backyard tend to be disturbed by rodents from time to time. Therefore, it is important that they set Best gopher trap for these rodents as soon as they suspect they are around. Spotting the pests can be quite tricky but if you see a mound at the middle of your backyard and you are certain it was not there a few hours ago, then be sure that there is a rodent around.

Catching these rodents is never easy thus you need to read some articles and follow the steps. Some of the things you will need to catch the pest include a shovel, leather gloves, gopher traps, a chain or wire that you will use to secure the bait, a stake that will hold the string in place, and wood to cover the hole so that you block out the light.

After you have assembled your tools, the first step is to find a mound that has been freshly dug by the rodents. If it rains, it can be a bit difficult to differentiate a fresh mound from an old one. You may spot the mounds by deposition of wet dirt or grass that has been pushed over. If you spot the mound, you can then start looking if there are tunnels around.

Usually, the rodents dig the tunnels and deposit the dirt in the ground through the holes to create the mounds. Therefore, their main concern is the tunnel and no the mound thus you need to be so vigilant while finding the tunnels. If you find them, dig a hole that will uncover them and make sure that you put on your gloves because you may be injured by small stones or thorns.

You can then block the hole but leave the tunnel so that when the rodent comes back, it will have to push up the soil to clear its tunnel. Lay your bait on the top of the hole after you have covered it and make sure that the rodent will have to crawl right through it when it tries to get back to its tunnel.

When you have set the bait, be patient and wait to see if this pest shows up. If pest is active, it can appear within a short time, but sometimes, it can take hours or even days. It is also possible that you fail to catch the thus do not get discouraged if you fail to nest it.

In the event your ambuscade missed the pest, dig it out with a lot of care so that you do not damage it as you can still use the bait. Your yard will be likely to be left with a very ugly spot thus be careful while removing the bait so as not to make it uglier.

If you are fortunate to catch the pest, you have to think of ways to bury it. If you fill the tunnel with soil, you can hide the pest in the hole, or you can dig a new hole at the edge of your yard and bury it there and cover it with soil.
