The Best Concrete Sealer Sprayers

By Margaret Cox

Applying sealers to your concrete surfaces can be tricky. Although you may use different rollers and other applicators, this could never produce results you are hoping for. Concrete sealer sprayers are definitely the best when it comes to applying different types of sealers on your concrete surfaces, but you still have to be very careful when choosing the right type of equipment.

There are so many sealer types today. Some are water based, while some can be solvent based. Among other things, the base determines the time needed for evaporation. Different sealers might contain various percentage of solids, as well as numerous different resins. In any case, all this might be important when you have to choose the best equipment for your work.

When it comes to sprayers, the best one is probably the one known as low-pressure, high volume, or LPHV, or airless sprayer. Besides having good quality application rates, this type is highly appreciated also for the fact it can be used for almost any type of sealers available. This includes both solvent and water based ones, with different amounts of solids and practically all types of resins.

Of course, high quality equipment comes with higher price as well. Other option is to use pump-up sprayers instead. Keep in mind that they are primarily to be used with solvent based sealants, and with solid contents under 35 percent only. Nozzle can be clogged, and you need to clean it after use. Good maintenance is essential when it comes to this type of equipment.

Different other applicators, such as mops or rollers, can also be quite useful in some cases. They are cheap, but good for some types of sealants. The problem is that they cannot reach all areas, and concrete surfaces rarely are perfectly smooth. That's why there might be spots and discoloration you would probably want to avoid. Sprayers are certainly much better solution.

On the other hand, for applying sealers with higher solid contents, for example epoxy and polyurethane sealers on different smooth surfaces, metal T-bar might be highly useful. After everything is perfectly dry, you may apply one thinner layer of sealer using your sprayer, to achieve even better results. In any case, it's important to make sure you are using appropriate equipment for each and every type of solution.

No matter what equipment you choose and which type of a sealer, it is always better to apply several thin layers instead of one thick one. This will get you much better results. Make sure to read the instructions carefully before starting the job. Little things that you forget might make a great difference, and using inappropriate equipment might also be dangerous.

Remember that sealants are aggressive substances. If something goes wrong, they will probably irritate your skin, destroy your clothes or something similar. It's important to be careful whatever you do, even if you have years of experience in this. Better be safe than sorry. Nozzles can clog, especially if you use inappropriate sealants with your equipment. Great results with minimum danger, this is always better option.
