Leadership skills can be learned and developed. They include the necessary qualities to guide an individual or group from one point or task to another. Leaders will use their personal knowledge, skills and influence to establish necessary relationships with people and help others meet their goals. Now, how can you relate these qualities to your child and help him or her to become an effective leader? Did you ever think about encouraging them to participate in your county's local program? An individual can take numerous programs to enhance his/her capability to effectively lead others. Learning various aspects of governance traits development, like leadership training, coaching, and especially work shadowing can enable any individual to be a successful leader. A vital governance skill is an understanding of the basics. We must expect our team leaders to be literate and numerate. However some businesses are so desperate for staff that leaders may be chosen for qualities such as promptness! However they then need to develop that person as the appointed leader through governance skill training.

Employees don't have to be promoted to be a leader - they just have to become more than ordinary. By developing governance traits they will become "extra"-ordinary... Their new governance traits will inspire their co-workers develop a positive attitude and be more productive.

Even though different individuals might need varying training programs to acquire governance traits, there exists similar objectives and means in which trainers concentrate. Some focus more on enhancing confidence, while others sharpen the individual's listening and speaking qualities.

Now, here is another question... Just what is a 4-H teen leader? This is a student between the ages of 13 and 19, one who continually learns & develops governance traits, helps others meet their goals by using their knowledge, abilities and skills. And, they continually practice these qualities through the many experiences & activities that 4-H has to offer.

Set Goals. Leaders make it a habit to set goals. This is true on any level, whether for the individual employee, department, or company. Goals are needed for completing projects successfully and on time. Successful leaders will teach employees to set goals that are not only realistic, but that will also inspire them to stretch and accomplish more.

Keep in mind, that after finishing a course in leadership skills, it is important to keep refreshing the learned traits and their valid application. All good courses function to achieve certain objectives and aim to develop an individual's confidence as he prepares to take on new and challenging roles and responsibilities.

In a Nutshell, if you want to be a leader who inspires employees - you have to lead by example. As with any other part of modern life it is important to move on and develop our skills, improving our knowledge and abilities. Ideas and methods that were appropriate years ago may now be outdated and inapplicable to the present environment we work in. This applies to the development of leadership skill too.
