Basic Principles Of Proper Golf Course Construction

By Lisa Turner

Golf is known as a gentle sport. It is considered as a sport for the elite in most society. Some golfing fields are constructed to international sporting standards. Others are however designed for regular recreation for enthusiasts. Even so, these constructions must be certain industry and legislative standards. This article highlights some factors to consider during golf course construction and maintenance.

Consider the environment impacts of the installation. One must run a holistic environment impact assessment. Consider the plants, animals, and people, if any. Ensure that the impacts are not adverse. The environmental impact assessment report must have approval from the relevant governmental authority. Also other documentation includes approval or change of use where applicable.

Grading of the terrain must also be conducted. In this light, grading involves assessing the suitability of the terrain for golfing activities. The slopes must be gentle and easy to manipulate for a good outcome. Erratic terrains may require excess manipulation to meet the desired plan and standard.

Consider the design of the course. Many fields are located in areas around forest covers. There are also several natural habitats to be expected. Trees, shrubs and bushes may also be present note that the sporting arena must meet aesthetic and sporting needs. Come up with a design with fewer pristine ecosystems. Avoid areas where multiple micro-ecosystems may be disturbed.

Also, consider the buffers to be installed to prevent adverse environment issues. If the installation requires that certain trees and indigenous plants are uprooted, set up a relocation spot. Draft a plan with reasonable mitigation measure to ensure that the general habitat is well sustained. In this regard, proper research must take place.

Consider issues such as power, water quality and waste management mechanisms in the terrain. The power source and flow should avoid altering the natural look of the area. More importantly, the installations must be safe. Consider the water table and quality of surrounding areas. In this light consider putting up fewer paved or concrete areas. Paving surfaces upsets the overall draining quality of the space. That may upset the water quality in ponds, marsh and swamps.

One of the most critical factors to consider is the post installation maintenance system. Note that the plant life is likely to face challenges such disease, and infestation by pests. It is important to keep the grass intact. Ensure that you do not keep the grass healthy at the expense of the other habitats in the area. Use friendly herbicides and pesticides.

There are many challenges facing the building of a golfing field. It is important that project managers have some impotent considerations. They must conduct an environmental impact assessment. Also, they must conduct a grading system to identify the best spot for installation. More importantly, project managers must ensure that they observe the limits of acceptable change in the area. It is imperative that the project manager considers mitigation strategies.
