Pinterest Referral Traffic Increases By 67% In The E-Commerce World

By Hanif Imran

Facebook is king of social. At least it has seemed that way for quite a while now. But how close to reality is that perception? Not as close as you think, at least not for e-commerce businesses that actually want to make sales and turn a profit from their advertising.

Facebook generates a lot of revenue from their advertising platform. However, Pinterest seems to do a much better job of converting its advertising into buyers. Pinterest is the third most popular social media site in the world, behind Facebook and Twitter. Shopify.com studied and analyzed data from over twenty five thousand Shopify online stores and found some very interesting statistics. Compared to Twitter traffic, Pinterest referral traffic is 10% more likely to buy something.

When your pages get shared, you get extra traffic. If you have an e-commerce site, this means more sales. This is really good for you and your business. It is best to have something on your site that will allow the user to pin something more easily. One way to do this is to add a pin button on all of your photos. It is easy to do and a great way to get your stuff shared.

No wonder Pinterest is growing so quickly from a revenue standpoint. Pinterest users convert to buyers more than other top social media site users. In fact, women on Pinterest are a staggering 46% more likely to make a fashion purchase than the average woman, this according to ComScore! And that's the bottom line for advertisers.

If you have an e-commerce business, you should seriously consider looking at Pinterest as a method by which you can generate additional traffic and sales for the products or services that you have that fit these types of products and demographics.

As you probably know, people are addicted to watching videos on the web. YouTube was purchased by Google for over $1 billion because they saw how powerful visual images, especially moving ones, actually are. In the same way, still images such as pictures of family members, travel locations, or even items that you purchase are often shared across the Internet from person to person. Pinterest is a website that allows you to create galleries of pictures that you find important, and makes it very easy for people to share what you have shared with the people that they know. This simple concept has led to a 67% increase in the revenue for e-commerce this year. Let's look at why this happened, and how this can also benefit you.
