What You Need to Know About Face Serums

By Andrea Hamilton

A facial serum is a liquid cosmetic merchandise applied to the facial and neck areas. It's got a very high percentage of active ingredients which penetrate and nourish deep into the skin. These ingredients change depending to the purpose it is intended for and are devised differently to suit several skin types. A face serum is usually used as a part of a beauty regime with a cleanser, toner and moisturizer.

Types

Anti-aging creams and serums contain vitamin C which lifts and firms skin; increases flexibility which smoothens out wrinkles and faint lines; and protects against damaging free radicals. Serums for dry skin contain hylauronic acid, a hydrating compound. Added to it may be rosemary, chamomile and almond oil. For the most satisfactory results these serums are best used along with a moisturising cream. Oily skin serums hold rosehip oil which heals marks from acne. Other concentrates include peppermint, calendula, lavender, aloe and cucumber. Finally, there are serums for the thin gentle skin around the eyes.

Facial Serums versus Moisturising lotions

The are two differences of these products. First is the bigger size of molecules in moisturizing lotions. This aids them to only penetrate the topmost layer of the skin in sharp relief to serums which can hydrate down to the 3rd layer. Moisturisers are excellent for sealing in moisture and therefore are used after a serum when the two are used together. 2nd is the higher concentration of ingredients in serums which make them superb for combating different skin issues.

Application

Facial serums are best applied right before retiring to bed. Giving the skin time to soak up them and regenerate overnight. Your face or neck is washed first, with a cleanser before the rubbing of 1 or 2 drops of the serum into the dampish skin. Only a little is necessary thanks to the serum's high concentration.

Provisions

Serums can become oxidized and rancid, a technique evidenced by a change in color. Keep in mind that such products will harm the skin.
